Peter is a highly experienced and successful Canine Handler, Dog Trainer, Instructor and Behaviourist.
He was a Metropolitan Police Dog Handler for 20 years and is an Accredited Home Office Instructor in General Purpose, Explosive, Narcotics and Weapons search. He was an Instructor at the world famous Metropolitan Police Dog Training School at Keston; where he also held the position of Chief Instructor. Peter holds a Behavioural Diploma in Canine Human Interface from the Animal Care College at Ascot Berkshire as well as Teacher Training Certificates.
As well as instructing, training and assessing dogs in all skill areas; his work in the police also included tactical firearm support (SWAT) and personal protection. Peter has competed in Police Dog Trials to a National level; where he was very successful with his dog "Ollie".
Peter's training approach is based upon assessing your dog's problems; in its entirety as well as the bond between the dog and its owners. Peter will advise you on how to improve your dog's behaviour through training, diet and the relationship with your dog. He will teach you why your dog displays certain forms of behaviour and how to counter that behaviour.
Aggressive and unsociable dogs are a speciality of Peter's and he will be able to advise and train you on how to rectify these problems. This will increase your confidence when handling your dog.
Assisting you to address all of your concerns regarding your dog is Peter's aim. Dog owners want their dogs to be well behaved and happy. It is common however, for dogs to mis-behave and on occasions for owners to lose confidence in their dog. He will rebuild your confidence and rectify any problems your dog has.
Peter believes that all training should be a relaxed and happy experience for your dog. He will teach you how to handle your dog in a clear and concise manner. You will be encouraged to ask questions to ensure that you understand what he is teaching. His training techniques are both humane and caring.
Meopham Veterinary Surgery have given Paw Dog Training their approval. Peter has written numerous articles and manuals on dog care and training related issues.
Peter has recently trained a Collie to locate explosives.
A full range of services are offered by Peter, that will improve your dog's behaviour as well as stimulate your dog. He offers consultations and training advice at your home, by post, e.mail and telephone.
Dog training classes are run by Peter concentrating on socialisation and obedience. The classes are structured to teach dogs to walk to heel, the recall, the sit, stay and down exercises. Information leaflets have been designed for each week; to enhance the knowledge of the handler.
Canine partners is a charity which assists disabled people to enjoy greater independence and a better quality of life through the help of specially trained dogs. Peter has in the past worked as an after-care assistant for Canine Partners.
Peter is an accredited NASDU (National Association of Security Dog Users) Trainer/Instructor. He has also been elected on to their commitee. NASDU is committed to ensuring excellence in the Dog Security field.
Peter is also a member of the British Police and Service Canine Association (BPCSA).
